Thomas Haydin was a man who loved the ladies. In April of 1897, that affection caught up with him. Hayden seduced an unnamed Boyden girl. Her father and brothers attempted every way possible to persuade Hayden to marry her. He refused. Both the Haydin and Boyden families were prominent members of the county.
William Boyden, her brother, shot and killed Thomas Haydin in Scott County, Virginia.
