Bristol, Virginia- Yopps Sanatorium
This institution was short-lived in Bristol during the 1910s and 1920.
The only remaining correspondence or office paperwork gives address and contact information, as well as price of a stay and the results of a patient’s “therapy” (unsuccessful). They claimed to treat alcoholics and drug addicts, but it’s likely they treated for more than that.
They also claimed to have a second hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
Every person, including the doctor, is virtually unknown. None are listed in Norfolk or Bristol historical documents. Letterhead states:
President- A.J. Yopp
Manager and Treasurer- Frank G. Dawson
Resident Physician- Dr. Harvey Robinson
The paperwork claims the institution was located on the corner of Lee and Mary Streets. Historians believe it was most likely in the old brick house that still stands.
There is no record of a Yopps Sanatorium in Norfolk at all. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. If you have heard of these people, or of this institution, please email the administration of this site.
