Worth a Thousand Nightmares?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many are haunted pictures worth? This seemingly "new" phenomena is not new at all. Reports of haunted pictures and paintings have been around for longer than most know. Sadly, precious few resources are available to provide any chronology or real information on this even.

 

In recent years, the painting "Hands Resist Him," has created quite a stir. This is the famous "Haunted Ebay Painting" and became almost an overnight success. This painting was originally created in 1972 by artist Bill Stoneham. The painting came up for sale on Ebay in 2000.

"The Crying Boy" was a mass produced work that was widely distributed from the 1950s onward. The Italian artist, Giovanni Bragolin. Many of the rumors of tragedy surrounding this artist have been labeled as urban legends.

The mainstream attention for the painting began in 1985. It was reported that firefighters began noticing every home which had this painting burned to the ground, yet the painting remained unharmed by the flames. It was also reported that no fireman would encourage anyone to have the painting in their home.

 

It was reported that 40-50 homes were destroyed by fire. This became know as the "Curse of the Crying Boy."
